ESSEX TROOP 2009 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Purpose: To give recognition to the members of the 102D Cavalry and members of the Essex Troop and/or their dependents for significant academic excellence, community achievement and outstanding citizenship who are endeavoring to continue their education.
Scholarships: A total of $5,000.00 may be awarded each year. The Essex Troop Scholarship Program consists of five scholarships. Two scholarships are valued at $1,000.00 each. Two are valued at $500.00 each. The fifth is valued at $2,000.00 for which all eligible applicants compete. (Values subject to adjustment due to economy)
Eligibility:
Colonel Paul A. Kelly Memorial Scholarships
Applicant must be an active, drilling NJ National Guard personnel in good standing and currently assigned to the 102D Cavalry
Value: $1,000.00 1st award
Value: $500.00 2nd award
Matthias B. Garrigan Memorial Scholarships
Applicant must be a Member of the Essex Troop in good standing, who has paid his/her annual membership dues for the current year and the preceding four years prior to the date of application.
Applicant must be a spouse, child, or grandchild of a Member of the Essex Troop in good standing, who has paid his/her annual membership dues for the current year and the preceding fours years prior to the date of application.
Value: $1,000.00 1st award
Value: $500.00 2nd award
The 102d Cavalry Regimental Scholarship.
All applicants that are qualified under the rules outlined in each of the individual scholarships and the General Rules of Eligibility are automatically qualified for The 102d Regimental Scholarship.
The recipient of the Regimental Scholarship is not eligible for any of the other scholarships

GENERAL RULES OF ELIGIBILITY.
Applicant must be currently enrolled or have been accepted to an approved college or university, school of nursing, and are taking a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester (12 credit hours per academic year).
Must be a graduate of an approved public or parochial high school, an accredited preparatory school, or be expected to hold a graduate equivalency diploma (GED) by June 30.
File a completed 2009 scholarship application with the Essex Troop Scholarship Committee no later than June 15, 2009.

Applicants are responsible for submitting the following information in packet form. The packet must be complete and arrive on or before June 15, 2009. Check off the items included in your packet:
Completed Application signed by the Applicant.
An official High School transcript, that includes the first semester senior year grades and rank, is required for applicants not already enrolled in an institution of higher learning. (This document must be mailed directly from the high school to The Scholarship Committee. Copies of report cards or grade reports will not be accepted.)
An official transcript of work completed through Jan 1st is required for applicants who are already enrolled in an institution of higher learning. (This document must be mailed directly from the school to The Scholarship Committee. Copies of report cards or grade reports will not be accepted.)
If not presently enrolled in an institution of higher learning, a copy of an acceptance letter is required.
Applicants for the Colonel Paul A. Kelly Scholarships must submit a letter from Company/Troop Commander stating that the individual is an active member in good standing of the unit. (Note: the unit commander must sign this letter ONLY.)
The sponsoring Essex Troop member must counter sign for family member applicants for the Matthias B. Garrigan Memorial Scholarship.
All applicants must submit an essay as outlined in the application.

Type or print all information (clearly):
Block 1: Last Name, First Name and Middle Initial of the individual applying for scholarship
Block 2: Home address and phone of record (Permanent address)
Block 3: Date of Birth of the individual applying for the scholarship
Block 4: Organization Affiliation - (Not Applicable for Essex Troop Members)
For National Guard personnel (Kelly Scholarship) enter your current unit of assignment, unit address, phone number, point of contact at unit. For Garrigan Scholarship applicants leave blank.
Block 5: Name and address of college, university, trade school of individual
Block 6: List declared major.
Block 7: College students: Enter the last semester GPA.
High School students: Enter seventh semester of GPA, if high school graduate list graduation GPA or enter class ranking.
NOTE: An official transcript of completed work must be requested from your educational intuition and sent directly to the Essex Troop.
Block 8: List all school activities (clubs, teams, service organizations) in which you participated or currently participate in school. Use the formal name of the organization, your position (member, captain, president, etc.) and inclusive dates. If none, enter none.
Block 9: List all civil and/or social activities (clubs, teams, service organizations) in which you participated or currently participate outside of school. Use the formal name of the organization, your position (member, captain, president, etc.) and inclusive dates. If none, enter none.
Block 10: Self explanatory.
