ESSEX TROOP 2010 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Purpose: To give recognition to the members of the 102d Cavalry Squadron (and all assigned companies and troops), 50th Special Troops Battalion and members of the Essex Troop and/or their dependents for significant academic excellence, community achievement and outstanding citizenship who are endeavoring to continue their education.
Scholarships: A total of $3,000.00 will be awarded each year. The Essex Troop Scholarship Program consists of six scholarships. Each scholarship is valued at $500.00 each are directed towards specific applicants as outlined in the eligibility section.
Eligibility:
1. Applicant must be a:
a. Member of the Essex Troop in good standing, who has paid his/her annual membership dues for the current year and the preceding four years prior to the date of application. Or the applicant must be a spouse, child , or grandchild of a Member of the Essex Troop in good standing, which has paid his/her annual membership dues for the current year and the preceding fours years prior to the date of application.
b. Applicant must be an active drilling NJ National Guardsman in good standing and currently assigned to the 102d Cavalry Squadron, to include Co D 250th Support Battalion of the NJ Army National Guard.
c. Applicant must be an active drilling NJ National Guardsman in good standing and currently assigned to the 50th Brigade Special Troops Battalion of the NJ Army National Guard.
2. Applicant must be currently enrolled or have been accepted to an approved college or university, school of nursing, and are taking a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester (18 credit hours per academic year).
3. Must be a graduate of an approved public or parochial high school, an accredited preparatory school or hold a graduate equivalency diploma (GED) no later than June 30 2010.
4. File a complete 2010 scholarship application with the Essex Troop Scholarship Committee no later than May 26, 2010.

2010 Scholarship Application Instructions
Applicants are responsible for submitting the following information in packet form. The packet must be complete and arrive on or before May 26, 2010.
A. Completed Application signed by the Applicant.
B. An official High School transcript, that includes the first semester senior year grades and rank, is required for applicants not already enrolled in an institution of higher learning. (This document must be mailed directly from the high school to The Scholarship Committee. Copies of report cards or grade reports will not be accepted.

An official transcript of work completed through Jan 1st is required for applicants who are currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning. Additionally, a letter of acceptance is required for the upcoming semester. Copies of report cards or grade reports will not be accepted. If not presently enrolled in an institution of higher learning, a copy of an acceptance letter is required.
C:Applicants for the 102d Cavalry Squadron and the 50th Brigade Special Troops Battalion must have the application counter-signed
by Company/Troop Commander. (Note: the unit commander must sign this endorsement.)
D. The sponsoring Essex Troop member must counter sign applicants for the spouse, children, or grandchildren

NOTE: Official transcripts and grade reports will be accepted after the closing date. These are the only documents that will be accepted after May 26, 2010.

Block 6: List declared major.
Block 7:
College students: Enter the last semester GPA.
High School students: Enter seventh semester of GPA, if high school graduate list graduation GPA or enter class ranking.
NOTE: An official transcript of completed work must be requested from your educational intuition and sent directly to the Essex Troop.
Block 8: List all school activities (clubs, teams, service organizations) in which you participated or currently participate in school. Use the formal name of the organization, your position (member, captain, president, etc.) and inclusive dates.
Block 9: List all civil and/or social activities (clubs, teams, service organizations) in which you participated or currently participate outside of school. Use the formal name of the organization, your position (member, captain, president, etc.) and inclusive dates.
Block 10: Self explanatory.
Block 11: Signature of applicant.
Block 12: Signature of Parent or Guardian and date. (Required if applicant is less than 18 years of age at the time a signature is applied to application.
Block 13: Print parent or guardian’s full name.
